BETHANYA ABEBE
Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 1994, Bethanya Abebe moved to the United States in 2008, later earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Texas in 2018 and a Master of Fine Arts from Pratt Institute in 2021. Now based in Brooklyn, NY, she brings everyday moments to life through a vibrant palette and expressive compositions. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, her paintings capture the fleeting, often-overlooked details of daily life, reflecting both personal experience and emotional depth.
Bethanya’s practice extends beyond traditional painting. Her introduction to fiber arts during her undergraduate studies ignited a fascination with embroidery, tufting, and faux fur—mediums she seamlessly weaves into her work. By constantly exploring new materials and pushing creative boundaries, she continues to evolve her artistic language, blurring the lines between painting and textile to create dynamic, tactile experiences.
