BETH WINTERBURN

STORIES OF INTERPERSONAL DYNAMICS IN COLOUR, SHAPE, LINE, AND TEXTURE.

Memphis, Tennessee, USA

Beth Winterburn

Beth’s work is defined by bold, gestural brushstrokes and minimalist detail, blending her analytical roots in photography and architecture with an intuitive, emotive process. She approaches each piece with a sense of structure—balancing light and dark, and dividing the composition into thirds and fifths—while allowing colour, line, and texture to tell the story of human relationships.

Her paintings are a visual journal, capturing memories and aspirations through the tension of longing, conflict, and acceptance. Beth’s raw, exposed brushstrokes reflect the vulnerability and transparency inherent in human connections, while her use of line and colour creates cohesion and connectivity across seemingly unrelated gestures. For Beth, the process of creation holds more significance than the final product—each moment, much like relationships, unfolds over time and is shaped by personal transformation.

BIOGRAPHY

BETH WINTERBURN

Beth earned her Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art in 2002 and has since cultivated a multifaceted and refined artistic practice. She began her collegiate career as part of the Architecture program, but quickly realized that the Fine Arts section of the building was where she belonged. Deeply immersed in the tactile process of film photography, she developed a profound connection to the hands-on nature of art—where numbers, proportions, and chemistry intertwine with creative expression. This technical foundation continues to shape her diverse body of work today.

After completing her studies, Beth worked closely with a photojournalistic photographer before pausing her practice to pursue other endeavours. When she returned, the advent of digital photography led her to reconsider her artistic direction. As a fine arts major, Beth developed a broad range of skills, working across clay, watercolour, design, sculpture, photography, and printmaking, all of which contributed to her versatile portfolio. Her artistic practice is defined by a commitment to both depth and precision. Though painting remained a secondary pursuit, a pivotal commission for a large abstract piece reignited her passion, ultimately shaping the distinctive style she is known for today.

Beth’s work has been featured on HGTV’s Property Brothers and in print publications such as The Koronette, Fanique Magazine, Maker’s Movement, and At Home Memphis & Mid-South. Her work has also appeared in various online publications, including Orlando Soria, I AM THE LAB, and StyleBlueprint.

She has collaborated with renowned designers across the U.S., including Reagan Hayes, Julie Couch, Lori Paranjape, Sabbe Interior Design, and Lindsey Black Interiors. Beth has also participated in numerous exhibitions throughout the South, including The Beacham Art Series, ArtsMemphis: Unfolding – The Next Chapter in Memphis, Four Knowledge II at Crosstown Arts, Young Collectors Contemporary, and various other art markets.
