Artist Spotlight: Bea Schubert
ABSTRACTPOP AND THE JOY OF CHILDHOOD
Bea Schubert, born in Minden, Germany in 1959, is a contemporary artist whose work radiates light, colour, and optimism. Known for coining the term “AbstractPop,” Schubert blends vibrant neon colours with everyday objects to create large-scale acrylic paintings that celebrate childhood wonder and the sheer joy of life. Her canvases are bold, playful, and uplifting, offering a colourful rebellion against the monotony of everyday existence.
JOURNEY THROUGH THE WORLD
Schubert studied painting at the University of Fine Arts in Braunschweig under Professor Hermann Albert, where she gained a foundation in technique and composition. But her defining artistic transformation came not in the classroom, but on the road. After her studies, she spent eight years traveling the world with only a backpack - walking over 25,000 kilometers in search of light, colour, and human connection.
This global exploration shaped her vision of art as a response to darkness, chaos, and global crises. She returned to painting with a renewed sense of purpose: to create works that embody hope, courage, and positivity.
A COLOURFUL REBELLION
Schubert describes her art as a manifesto for joy and a reminder of the magic of childhood:
“Each of my paintings is an invitation to let yourself be swept away by the power of optimism. They are meant to lift and inspire the soul: Don’t just dream your dreams. Live them, boldly!”
Her works are visual oases where colour comes alive and imagination reigns. They encourage viewers to reconnect with their inner child and embrace life’s endless possibilities.
Themes of play, lightheartedness, and boundless energy are present in every piece. By choosing large canvases, Schubert amplifies this sense of immersion, surrounding the viewer with her vision of joy.
AN INTERNATIONAL PRESENCE
Bea Schubert’s studios in Nienburg/Weser, Germany, and Mallorca, Spain, are creative hubs that fuel her expansive career. Her works are presented in galleries and prestigious art fairs worldwide, with recognition from institutions such as the German Embassy in Athens and the Chagall Museum in Vitebsk, Belarus.
She has presented multiple solo exhibitions across Europe, including Good Vibes Only in Hamburg and Hanover, and a recent solo show at the Museu de Sóller in Mallorca. Her work has also been featured in prominent international art fairs such as The Affordable Art Fair in London and art3f in Brussels. Schubert’s paintings are held in distinguished private and institutional collections throughout Europe and beyond.
