"In the 1990s, Gill Bustamante began working with an art agent specializing in animal portrait commissions. Through this experience, she refined her formal portrait techniques and mastered the art of capturing lifelike detail. For years, commissions were her primary source of income, but in 2010, she transitioned to selling her work online. This shift gave her the freedom to explore new ideas and techniques, allowing her to paint purely for creative fulfillment. It was during this period that she developed the distinctive style that defines her work today.
